The three finalists and the winner of 2016 were announced during the 3rd edition of the iiAwards, a competition dedicated to international start-ups.
With nearly 150 applications received from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East, the iiAwards aim to draw the attention of foreign start-ups in the French innovation ecosystem and to promote the attractiveness of Paris as a « Living City », which was this year’s theme to select the start-ups. This competition is part of the framework set by Anne Hidalgo, who wants the Parisian incubators to welcome 30% of foreign companies between now and 2018.
Ten start-ups were invited to Paris to present their projects to a panel of experts, researchers, decision makers and investors, including the members of Paris&Co’s Club Open Innovation, representing 70 large French companies. Three finalist start-ups were rewarded on 13 December and the winner was announced on 14 December. The winner won a cheque worth €12,000, the runner-up, €8,000 and the third place, €3,000. The 10 finalists also won the chance to take part in an incubation programme for a month in one of Paris&Co’s incubators.
