Olivia Polski and Jean-Louis Missika, Deputy Mayors of Paris, officially launched the "Smart Food Paris" innovation platform, which aims to develop new ways of producing and consuming food.
Initiated by the City of Paris and co-founded by prestigious partners, this programme will see the light of day in mid-2016 on a dedicated site in Eastern Paris (20th arrondissement). Its main purpose is to promote the emergence of young, innovative companies in this sector. Its second objective is to organise and facilitate meetings between major companies and start-ups, on a site suited to the specific characteristics of the sector.
Food is at the heart of many crucial issues, such as health, environmental management or France's influence in the world. Smart Food Paris aims to offer innovative solutions to meet these challenges.
"Production practices are being transformed, consumers' expectations are changing and the digital world offers new ways of accessing food. These are the challenges which the start-ups at Smart Food Paris will have to face, working with the major partnering companies who themselves deal with these issues on a daily basis," explained Jean-Louis Missika, Deputy Mayor of Paris, responsible for economic development and attractiveness.
The plan is also to make this platform a place where the community of innovators and entrepreneurs interested in these issues can come together. The Smart Food platform will therefore become the leading Parisian location for innovation in the food sector.
"The recipe proposed by the City, its agency Paris&Co and our partners is to mix culinary tradition and innovation in one place, where we can reflect on and respond to the new needs and consumption habits in the food sector. This new innovation platform will help us to identify new trends and taste the successes of the future, whilst mixing with players from the world capital of gastronomy," commented Olivia Polski, Deputy Mayor, responsible for trade, the crafts sector and the liberal professions.

Alongside the City of Paris and its agency Paris&Co, the founding members of this incubator programme are the Elior Group, Carrefour, the Up Group and Danone.
